Fly Girl & Easy Ruffle Shorts, Sew-A-Long Day 5

Good Morning to you all! How's everyone sewing coming along? I hear a lot of folks were ripping seams on our Fly Girl. There's no shame, I admit so did I... We're still all winners! :) Hopefully the Easy Ruffle Shorts are coming along quicker and easier for you!

If you haven't snagged the patterns but still want to participate, it's not too late! Grab your Fly Girl pattern here and Easy Ruffle Shorts pattern here - be sure to enter the code: "Fly Girl" & "Easy Ruffle" for a discount. Also, have you liked them on Facebook yet? Why not now by clicking here!

Let's Rock & Roll!!!

Yesterday we sewed our pretty little shorts together and today we will be adding the beautiful ruffles! Here's my piece with ruffles ready to be ironed and gathered. Start back on page 8 and iron the ruffles.

Gather according to page 9 and 10 at attach according to page 11.

After attaching my ruffle I went ahead and added my crochet trim for some extra fun!

Isn't that GORGEOUS! This will add so much to this piece!

This is what you will have when you've finished pages 8 - 12.

Sew up your sides as noted on page 12. Now we're going to make room for those baby bottoms! For younger ones there's extra you will cut to make room for diapered babes.

Stitch those bad boys (girls) up in the crotch making sure to go over the seam a couple times for strength and wearability.

Now is the time to add those CPSIA tags! Compliancy is Cool! I'm trying to come up with catchy jingles on why EVERYONE, not just hobbyists, should be safe and compliant in their clothing making. :) It's easy and important! For more information check this group out, CD Compliance. They cover compliancy all over not just cloth diapers.

Look at those gorgeous beauties you created!!!! And it was so quick and easy? A nice break from the little more difficult Fly Girl! You've completed pages 1 - 18! You go girls!

You deserve this child tested and approved cupcake for your achievements! :)

Be sure to join us one more day for adorable pictures! I hope you've had as much fun as I have these past few days. I love, love working with you all!

Don't forget to post your beautiful designs as we Sew-A-Long our sweet little Fly Girl tops and Easy Ruffle Shorts! To be eligible you must finish the Fly Girl pattern!!! Sewing JUST the Easy Shorts will not qualify!

P.S. We will be giving away not just one prize but three! That's right! Three winners will be chosen to win a free pattern. We will select a random participation winner, fan favorite and a Little Lizard King choice winner!

Fly Girl & Easy Ruffle Shorts, Sew-A-Long Day 4

Anyone hearing, "and now back to our regularly scheduled program" in their heads? I had a wonderful day-break in between our last sew-a-long with the awesome Little Lizard King pattern, Fly Girl! But now, ladies, BACK to BUSINESS! This time we'll be sewing up the adorable Easy Ruffle Shorts and if you haven't sewn them before, trust me, they're super easy and awesome! You're going to love them!

Be sure to check out www.stitchesngiggles.com for awesome fabrics (can you say Michael Miller, Riley Blake, etc.) at REALLY good prices! She also has great daily deals as well!

Snag your super awesome pattern pieces by printing just pages 20 - 22 and assemble them according to the directions given on page 4. I decided to use some coordinating fabric from Hobby Lobby to match my previous Fly Girl.

Fly Girl sewn, isn't she pretty!!!

I LOVE trims so I will be adding trims to match my Fly Girl top. Gather your necessary hard working tools!

Adorable metallic fabric up close!

Don't forget this guy even though we aren't friends right now.

Once you've cut your pieces per instructions on pages 1 - 5 you should have 4 short pieces, elastic, trim (optional) and your 2 ruffle pieces assembled.

Follow instructions on page 5 - 7, do NOT get overzealous and sew both sets together *cough* like I did the first time...

Once you've finished that you should have a piece that looks like this! You have now completed pages 1 - 7!

That's it for today! Tomorrow we will continue on page 8.

Fly Girl & Easy Ruffle Shorts, Sew-A-Long Day 3

Are you ready?? Today is going to be a very "stay focused, don't fret, you can make it through" day! And that's why we have these wonderful sew-a-longs to help each other whenever we have questions on how to do things! Some folks that have sewn this pattern in particular get confused when attaching the sleeves but don't worry! I'm hoping to make it easier to understand. Once you do it, it's like riding a bike the second time around.

Be sure to check out www.stitchesngiggles.com for awesome fabrics (can you say Michael Miller, Riley Blake, etc.) at REALLY good prices! She also has great daily deals as well!

Prepare your sleeves as noted on page 15 and we'll proceed onto page 16 below.

The first time I did this I was super genius and attached the sleeve to the bottom of the pink bodice piece where it was attached to the main chevron fabric. DO NOT DO THIS. Instead attach to the curve of the pink bodice piece where the two pink bodice pieces are sewn together. Also, make sure the right sides of your SLEEVE and MAIN fabric are touching. This is especially important if you have trim on one side or if you have a different lining fabric for your sleeves.

After that sleeve incident I needed some therapy... I believe words like "Frick Frack!" & "Fiddle Sticks!" were said while seam ripping... or something like that. :)

As per above photo, fold over your pink bodice piece on the flutter sleeve and sew.

Complete for both sleeves completing pages 15 - 18.

Pushing your beautiful flutter sleeve out of the way complete pages 19 - 21 for attaching the bow tie for the back. Be sure to again place the pink back strap sandwiched in-between the pink bodice pieces. For below I skipped pages 22 - 23 since I wasn't attaching a button.

This part can be a little confusing but I promise it's easier than it seems!

Inside of flutter sleeve flipped around and attached to other side of arm hole. Be sure to attach to the same curve of the arm hole as you did on the opposite side earlier.

Attached and folding over bodice pieces to sew flutter sleeve in.

Bodice piece folded over where it should be sewn.

Here's your piece once the sleeves have been sewn in!! You made it through, PHEW! Grab a drink.. of water... And CELEBRATE! You've finished pages 24 - 25!

Once you've done that part just finish page 26 OR 27 for the closed back option.

You did it!!! Tomorrow we will be starting our adorable matching Easy Ruffle Shorts so stay tuned! Don't forget to post your beautiful designs as we Sew-A-Long our sweet little Fly Girl tops and Easy Ruffle Shorts!

P.S. We will be giving away not just one prize but three! That's right! Three winners will be chosen to win a free pattern. We will select a random participation winner, fan favorite and a Little Lizard King choice winner!

Grab the pieces you completed yesterday and follow instructions on page 8.

Only cut ONE panel in half!

Here's what it looks like after completing steps on page 8.

This is coming along nicely isn't it?

Remember this nifty tool from last time??

Complete bias steps on page 9, you can either buy double fold bias or make your own! I made my own for this particular part.

Be sure to not wake the cat through all of it. Isn't she the sweetest??
Complete steps on page 10 to gather your top.

Grab your little bitty bodice pieces and work through pages 11 - 12

Here's what you should have after completing the pages.

Focus ladies! This is important! :) Follow instructions on page 13.

Underside of what you just pinned.

Here's what it should look like once you've sewn the pieces on. Be sure the curves of the bodice pieces face inward, not outward - that would be crazy.

I went ahead and added some cute trim at this point to give my piece some variety. I. LOVE. LACE!

That's it for today! You've just completed pages 8-14!  Don't forget to post your beautiful designs as we Sew-A-Long our sweet little Fly Girl tops and Easy Ruffle Shorts!

Fly Girl & Easy Ruffle Shorts, Sew-A-Long Day 1

Hello and welcome!! I am SO super excited to be hosting another Sew-A-Long with Little Lizard King patterns. This was my first try at this specific pattern. I had bought it long ago and just stared at it in great anticipation but never found the time with all the adorable little Ruffle Sunsuits I was making for my shop! But now, to have a reason to sew it, is FANTABULOUS! Yes, that's a word... I think.

So for this Sew-A-Long we will be doing both the Fly Girl with the open bow tie back option & Easy Ruffle Shorts! Yes, you read that right, a two-for-one! Like those movie deals that they never do anymore. I picked up some super cute fabric from Hobby Lobby and trim from Walmart! So, with all that said, let's ROCK & ROLL!

Grab your cut out pattern pieces and gorgeous fabric choices! For this pattern all you need to print for the pieces is page 6! Woohoo!

My beautiful fabric choices and trim.

Today, let's go ahead and cut out our pieces as well, since the Fly Girl takes a little more mind power than some of the others!

Your pieces once assembled, elastic not shown.

Go ahead and complete page 7 while you're at it.

You've just completed pages 1 - 7! You go girls and possibly really crafty awesome guys too..... Don't forget to post your beautiful designs as we Sew-A-Long our sweet little Fly Girl tops and Easy Ruffle Shorts!
